How to tell the time & date:

How to tell the time. Almost like a regular clock, but MONAD uses a 24 hour Number Dial. The Hour Hand which points at the time of day on the Number Dial projects from the Earth globe.

How to tell the date. A Calendar Band is located on the forward facing edge of the Celestial Ring. The Solar Meridian passing through the Sun indicates the day of the year by pointing at one of the Day Blocks that are part of a Month Block, one of 12 Month Blocks encircling the Calendar Band. Every 5th Day Block of every month contains one or more dots, 1 dot on the 5th, 2 dots on the 10th, 3 dots on the 15th of the month, etc. The week end (Saturday, Sunday) Day Blocks are darker than the work week Day blocks (Monday through Friday), creating a 5:2 repeating pattern all around the Calendar Band. Once you get it, it’s easy to tell the time and date at a glance. And of course the digital display of the time is in the upper left corner of the screen and the digital display of the date is in the upper right corner of the screen.

How to set the Time, Date & Location:

Ordinary clocks have to be re-set (to the correct time and date) after the energy of winding the main spring fully dissipates or if the battery runs down. You don’t need to worry about this with MONAD. MONAD is always set to the correct time and date. Just Tap the NOW button to show the current time and date.

Setting the location (of the Hour Hand) is done automatically by GPS if you permit it, otherwise you can enter the latitude and longitude (of your location) or set the approximate location by placing (using the latitude and longitude Sliders) the little green sphere at the base of the Hour Hand, like placing a pin on a globe. Your location falls within one of 25 time/date zones. (Zone +/- 12 is effectively split in half, with both sides sharing the same time, but separated by one day/date.) The digital time and date associated with any particular time zone is displayed in the top right corner of the MONAD screen.

Earth spins once a day relative to the Sun and orbits the Sun once every seasonal year. The complex, multi-body configuration of the Solar System goes through a series of predictable changes as time advances. When we talk about setting the time or date on MONAD, we’re talking about advancing or retreating the changing configuration of the solar system, to reflect the time as recorded here on planet Earth. MONAD accurately reflects these changing celestial conditions for the Sun and Moon and all of the planets making up the solar system.

How to set the Start Time for an appointment.

If you make appointments, you will want to be able to set the time and date. The easiest way is to simply Drag the Hour Hand until it points at the correct time and date. The digital date is clearly indicated in the top left corner of the Monad Screen.

How to set the date.

If you drag the Hour Hand past 24 on the Number Dial you will change the date. As you spin the Earth, notice the sun is apparently moving along the ecliptic or in the case of Monad, the ecliptic moves past the Sun fixed at 12. If you Drag the Hour Hand 3 complete revolutions, you advance or retreat the date by 3 days. If you want to set a date in the distant past or future, you can accelerate the process by Dragging the Calendar Band, which will make the Hour Hand spin very rapidly, one revolution per Day Block passing the Solar Meridian Noon Track Indicator.

How to tell the time of sun rise and sun set.
Note that the Number Dial is divided into two opposing segments, black at the bottom and white on top, with an abrupt transition from black to white on the a.m. side of the dial and an abrupt transition from white to black on the p.m. side of the dial. This is the Twilight Dial and those two transitions mark the time on the Number Dial for sun rise and sun set. Drag the Calendar Band rapidly to see how the Twilight Dial changes considerably over the course of a seasonal year.
